Physical and mechanical properties of Pinus radiata wood imported from New Zealand were tested and evaluated according to relevant Chinese national standards.The test results showed that air-dry density of the wood samples was low, shrinkage rate and wet expansion ratio in radial direction of the wood samples were all less than that in tangential direction,resulting in better radial dimensional stability. Cross hardness, radial hardness and tangential hardness of the wood samples ranked the best, the second and the worst, respectively. Bending strength fell in medium grade, and bending modulus of elasticity, impact toughness, shearing-strength and compressive strength parallel to grain were all in low grade. Therefore, it was suggested that if the wood be better processed and utilized, the characteristics of Pinus radiata wood should be considered.
