To analyze the influence of corner strength of panel furniture, specimens were cut from fiber board and plywood and were used as backboards which were connected with panel and side plates by screws in rebated joint and flat joint.Corner strength was tested with panel and side plates in either tension or compression. The results showed that the corner strength was not closely related to backboard material. When the panel and side plates were in tension, the corner strength of the rebated joints was slightly lower than flat joints;while in compression, the corner strength of the rebated joints was obviously higher than the flat joints.Corner damage occurred more likely when the panel and side plates were compressed inward rather than tensioned outwards.
