ZHOU Yong-dong, YE Ke-lin. Effects of Sawing Methods on Dimensional Lumber Recovery and Quality[J]. China Wood Industry, 2009,23(2):1-3. DOI: 10.19455/j.mcgy.2009.02.001.
A comparison of the traditional saw-dry-rip (SDR) method and the cant sawing technology of lumber production was made in this study to evaluate lumber grade recovery and efficiency. Chinese fir (Larix gmelini ) logs, originating from the northern-east area of China, were used. The advantages and disadvantages of the two different sawing methods were analyzed. It was found that lumber recovery from the cant sawing method was higher than that from the SDR sawing and that lumber quality from cant sawing was also better,as well. The cant sawing technique, with an optimized process that was developed for this study, was successfully transferred to the industry.
