Two different transparent coatings for wood products, polyurethane and acrylic varnishes, were selected to evaluate their lightfastness under laboratory conditions. Two films coated with the two varnishes were exposed under a Xenon-lamp attenuation instrument. After being exposed for 100 hours,it was found that color changed in both films. The color fading of the polyurethane film was more severe than that of the acrylic film. The chromaticity coordinates of the polyurethane film increased significantly. This indicated that the polyurethane film was more likely to etiolate than the acrylic film.
