An experiment was conducted to study the density and drying characteristics of 7,10 and 20 year-old Acacia mangium samples that were collected from the Gaofeng forest farm in Guangxi Province.Results found that the average air-dried density,basic density（based on moisture content at 12%） and oven-dried density were 0.534～0.588 g/cm ,3,0.452～0.513 g/cm,3,0.498～0.545（g/cm,3,） respectively.The density for air-dried samples was at the medium level compared with most domestic wood.The grade of drying characteristics with respect to initial check,inner check cross-section deformation,twisting deformation as well as drying speed for Acacia mangium is level（3～4.）The results show that the density of Acacia mangium tends to increase as it ages and that the older it is,the better are the drying characteristics with a grade decrease of only 1 or 2 levels.
