The effects of compression ratio, assembly type and reinforcement method on mechanical properties of Poplar laminated veneer lumber (LVL) were investigated. Among all the factors, the compression ratio was the most effective. Higher compression ratio resulted in higher modulus of rupture (MOR), modulus of elasticity (MOE) and shear strength but less deflection related to creep. LVL assembled using thinner veneer on the face and thicker veneer in the core layers, as well as LVL made by resin impregnated veneer showed better mechanical properties. LVL with fiberglass reinforcement had less effective influence. The creep behavior of LVL was similar to that of wood. However, the instantaneous recovery of LVL specimens, measured after load removal, was less than the instantaneous deflection. Some assembly types mentioned in this paper could benefit LVL by increasing MOR and MOE as well as modifying creep behavior.
