water-based acrylic and solvent-borne polyurethane lacquers were used to paint imported wood of Swietenia macrophylla and Pinus radiata, respectively.Chromaticity of the wood samples was measured before and after painting in order to evaluate painting film performance. The results showed that color saturation, overall color difference and glossiness value were increased after painting, while overall color difference with polyurethane lacquers was greater than that with acrylic waterborne lacquers. The painting film performance could reach either the first or the second grade according to Chinese National Standard GB/T4893.The film of solvent-borne polyurethane lacquers showed superior strength in hardness, while film of the water-borne acrylic lacquers had excellent adhesion performance.
