Abstract
Based on life cycle analyses theory, the authors established an algorithm model for calculating carbon emissions from structural building materials used in timber construction and other constructions. The authors then quantitatively analyzed the carbon emissions from the relevant structural materials. The results showed that carbon emissions from timber construction were significantly less than that from steel and concrete. Moreover, carbon emissions from wood varied with different wood species. Among the four species selected for the timber construction, Larix gmelinii timber released minimum carbon emissions with 68 tons of carbon dioxide, and Abies grandis timber released the maximum carbon emissions with 1 175 tons of carbon dioxide.
