Green eucalyptus from plantation forests was modified by the sol-gel method.Microstructure and silicon dioxide(SiO2)distribution of the samples were evaluated with scanning electron microscopy(SEM)/ energy dispersive X-ray analyzer(EDAX)and Fourier transform infrared(FTIR)and then were tested for physical and chemical properties. The results showed that soaking time had a very important effect on content and distribution of SiO2.Weight percentage gain(WPG)and air dry density of the samples could reach 45% and 0.6 g/cm3,respectively.Bending strength, hardness and light aging resistance of the modified samples were also improved.
