Silicon sol-gel treatment has been used as an effective method to improve wood properties. In this study, the authors attempted to explore the interacting mechanism between the silicone system and wood. They evaluated the contents and status of carbon, oxygen and silicon elements in a silicon modified wood by scanning electron microscope-energy dispersive analysis of X-ray(SEM-EDAX).The results showed that silicon was mainly distributed in the cell wall. The contents of the carbon, oxygen and silicon elements changed with weight gain(WPG) rates of the modified wood.
