Fast-growing poplar and pine(Pinus sylvestris) samples were acetylated and their performances evaluated. Results showed that acetylation improved wood thermoplasticity and dimensional stability, and had no effect on wood painting film adhesion. However, the wood bonding strength was decreased. The authors believe that acetylated wood could be compressed to increase its density and hardness to meet furniture manufacturer’s requirements.
