Boron-based wood preservatives have been one of the environmentally-friendly chemicals to improve wood product durability.However,boron leaching,their effective ingredient,has presented a major barrier for outdoor applications.To improve the understanding of the boron leaching mechanism,the authors reviewed the current research status of developing and applying boron-based wood preservatives in the areas of processing and mixing with other special borides for leaching resistance.Some suggestions were made for development of future boron-based wood preservatives with better leachability.
