Bonding performances of glued-lumber specimens made from two different species were evaluated in this study.A total of six plantation grown wood species, including Chinese fir(Cunninghamia lanceolata),Poplar(Populus×canadensis cv.’I-214’),Eucalyptus grandis,E.grandis×E.urophylla,E.citriodor,and E.exserta were selected. The shear strength, percentage of wood failure, and shear-strength efficiency(defined as ratio of shear strength to density) were used to evaluate the bonding performance. The result showed that density was the dominate factor that determined the bonding strength. It was found that specimens made from two species with similar density had a high average bonding strength, while the specimens made from two species with a significant difference in their densities resulted in poor bonding performance.
