The surface of wood composites undergoes photochemical degradation when exposed to ultraviolet and sunlight radiation. This degradation is usually accomplished by the negative effects of color instability and visual appearance. In this study, radiation from a Xenon-Lamp Attenuation Instrument was used to accelerate the color fade of Poplar and Scots Pine veneer.During the testing, color characteristics of lightness(L*) and chromaticity coordinates(a* and b*) were monitored periodically. The observations of the decreasing lightness and increasing chromaticity coordinates showed that the surface color of the wood veneer fade when exposed to light radiation. It was found that under the same amount of the light radiation the Scots Pine veneer changed its color more quickly than the Poplar veneer.
