The authors conducted a series of experiments to determine the manufacturing parameters for making MDF from cotton stalk.Results showed that cotton stalk could be used as one of the raw materials for MDF production.Optimum parameters obtained through the experiments were as follows: density 0.7g/cm,3,glue consumption 12%,water-resistant agent 1.5%,hot-pressing temperature 180℃ and hot-pressing time 15 s/mm.Under these conditions,the boards had superior mechanical properties compared with the national standard.However,the 24h TS could not meet the standard requirement,owing to the character of the cotton stalk itself.
