The authors studied the effects of the mole ratio of formaldehyde to phenol (F/P) and the dosage of additives including sodium hydroxide, urea and methyl glucoside on the properties of kenaf felt boards, Results indicated that: 1) The IB of kenaf felt boards could be improved by raising the F/P mole ratio and the dosage of sodium hydroxide, whereas it decreased with the increase of urea, and it was little influenced by methyl glucoside to a certain degree. 2) The TS of kenaf felt boards declined with an increase in the F/P mole ratio. However, it increased while adding sodium hydroxide, urea and methyl glucoside. 3) The optimal concentration of urea was less than 4% of the amount of resin, the mole ratio of F/P and NaOH/P was 2.0 and 0.06 respectively, and the ratio of methyl glucoside to phenol should be less than 4%.
