A wide variety of combinations of chemicals (including surfactants, oxidants, reductants, organic acids, ultraviolet absorbens, boron-containing compounds, alkali liquors. urea and water-soluble polymers) have been tested in the soaking experiments of paulownia wood to prevent the wood from colour changeduring storage. The efficiency of each combination was evaluated by visual observation after soaking. Four combinations of chemicals have been found out, which have some capability to reduce the tendency Of the wood changing colour. The effects of different drying conditions and moisture content of the wood on the colour change were also observed. The suitabilities of various methods for preventing discoloration of the wood were discussed.
