Aiming at protecting rotary veneer lathes from metal debris exited in logs, new devices composed of metal detectors and eddy current sensors which was used to enhance detecting sensitivity were installed in log conveyors of a rotary veneer production line. In addition, a U-shaped groove with a hydraulically controlled baffle was also used to disengage the logs which were detected to contain metal debris inside. The system could be helpful to protect rotary veneer production lines.
