Phenol-formaldehyde resin（PF）solutions were prepared to impregnate poplar veneers（air-dry and water-saturated）using a roller-press.Effects of technological parameters on veneer weight percent gain（WPG）were investigated.The results showed that using a roller-press was an effective method to impregnate liquid PF resins into both air-dry and water-saturated poplar veneers.WPG in both air-dry and water-saturated poplar veneers increased with higher roller press compression ratio and longer soaking time.More roller pressing cycles could help improve WPG of the poplar veneers,but might result in damage to the poplar veneers if more than 5cycles were used.The WPG of the poplar veneers was affected by linear velocity of the rollers and the WPG was lower with higher roller speed.
