Dust and Volatile Organic Compound Emissions during Wood Furniture Manufacturing
The authors made an investigation on dust and volatile organic compounds(VOCs)produced during wood furniture manufacturing. The results showed that the total dust concentration during mechanical processing was lower than that produced during semi-mechanical and handwork processing.Sanding resulted in a certain amount of free silica in addition to wood dust. There were heavy metals such as Lead(Pb)and Cadmium(Cd)in the dust from putty sanding and painting.Total volatile organic compound emissions depended on painting method and procedures. It was suggested that occupational exposure limits of dust be established for wood furniture manufacturing and spray chamber, ventilation installation and gas-cleaning facilities should be used to effectively cut down TVOCs concentrations.
