The crushed bamboo mat was treated with the ammonium polyphosphate （ APP） and was then used to make crushed bamboo-mat composite. The mechanical properties,fire performance,pyrolysis behavior of the composite were evaluated. The results showed that compared to untreated crushed bamboo-mat composite, mechanical properties of crushed bamboo-mat composite with APP treatment remained about the same,while the fire retardant performance was improved considerably,for the time to ignition（ TTI） was extended,while the heat release rate （ HRR） ,total heat release （ THR） and total smoke production （ TSP） were all reduced.
