Influence of Modified Phenol-Formaldehyde Resin on Properties of Aluminum Foil Overlayed Medium Density Fiberboard
Decorative wood-based panels, overlayed with metal foil, have become more popular in China due to their appearance and low cost. The authors sought to improve the panel’s durability by modifying regular phenol-formaldehyde resin by mixing it with thermoplastic resins and coupling agents to improve the bonding performance between aluminum foil and MDF panels. The results showed that modified phenol-formaldehyde resin improved surface bonding strength and reduced water soakage.Although the modified resin reduced the mechanical properties, they still met the requirement of industry standard LY/T 1983-2011.
