Mechanical Performance of a Bamboo-based Fiber Composite for Wind Turbines
A bamboo(Sinocalamus affinis) fiber composite with high specific strength and stiffness can be used for load-bearing wind turbine blades. The composite is made from 3~4 year-old bamboo culms that have been reconstituted and hot-pressed.Specimens,ranging in density from 1.08 to 1.20 g/cm3,were tested for tension, compression and fatigue properties and compared with traditional glass fiber composites. The results provide blade designers with positive preliminary technical parameters.
