This article reviewed the bamboo liquefaction and utilization research in China and concludes that bamboo utilization efficiency should be improved.It also introduced a project called "Manufacturing technology of light-weight and high-strength wall materials by liquefaction and foaming from small-diameter bamboo" with goals of utilizing small diameter bamboo and bamboo processing residues.A series of technical difficulties were overcome in bamboo catalytic liquefaction,forming process,and wall material preparation.The new material with its advantages of flame-retardant,light-weight,and high-strength showed great potential in the bamboo product industry.
