Dimensional Stability of Reconstituted Resin-Impregnated-Veneer Lumber Used in Bathroom
Wood products used in a bathroom must have good dimensional stability and water resistance. To meet the growing market demand for decorative wood used for this application, the authors made some reconstituted lumber using resin impregnated veneer from plantation grown birch. They evaluated the influence that resin solids content, resin impregnation method, and hot-pressing pressure had on dimensional stability of the reconstituted birch veneer lumber. The results showed that using 40% resin solids content and 1.0 MPa roll pressure(compression ratio between 50%~70%)conditions,the lumber had a lower volume expansion rate(6.2 %)than solid ash and oak lumber.
