Based on the trend and background of low-carbon economy development in China,the authors discussed the important economic role of the wood product industry and the future direction of technology development.It is recognized that wood products led to significant reduction in atmosphere carbon by partially replacing the other high-carbon intensive materials,extending carbon storage period,and reducing energy and raw material consumptions.It is recommend that the key economic and technological strategies for the wood product industry should include reasonable utilization of forest and other bio-based raw materials,more applications of wood products in building construction,and explicit policy for managing carbon sequestration in waste wood resources.
