Leachability of Lumber Treated with Inorganic Boron
The leachability of lumber treated with different inorganic boron solutions was determined according to the American Wood Protection Association standard AWPA E11-06.The results showed that the boron leaching rate of treated lumber were decreased significantly by using a two-step method;which means lumber is treated with borax and then calcium chloride or polyvinyl alcohol(PVA P1763).The boron leaching rates of the treated lumber was between 39.6% and 61.4% after water immersion for 2-weeks.However,it was observed that the boron leaching rates of the lumber treated with either zinc/calcium chloride or borax/boric acid in one step method remained the same.
