Chemical Composition,Decay Resistance and Mold Inhibition of Heat-Treated Lumber
To better understand the mechanism of the heat-treatment,the authors evaluated the change in major chemical composition, decay resistance, and mold inhibition of selected dimensional lumber treated at 180 ℃and 230 ℃.The results showed that when the temperature of treatment increased, the moisture content, holocellulose, and hemicellulose contents of the treated lumber decreased. The cellulose and acid-insoluble lignin contents of the treated lumber, however, increased. The heat-treated lumber also improved their decay resistant performance and their mold inhibition remained the same as the control lumber.
