Effect of Surfactants on Performance of Bamboo Crushed-Strip Board
Bamboo crushed-strip board(BCSB),which utilizes more than 90% raw material,is increasingly used to manufacture bamboo furniture and flooring in China. However, the non-uniform resin distribution and less resin usage due to the geometry and surface quality of the crushed bamboo strips caused the delamination and defects of the final products. To increase the resin usage and improve the dimensional stability, the authors chose three surfactants to modify the phenol formaldehyde resin to improve the resin penetration into the bamboo strips. It was found that all surfactants improved board dimensional stability. When the content of surfactants OP-10 and PEG-100 was 2.0% and 1.5% respectively, the dimensional changes were reduced by 1.8% in width and 2.7% in thickness.
