Effect of Surface Roughness of Veneer Overlaid Panel on Quality of Water-borne Sealer Coating
Maple veneer overlaid furniture panels were first tested for surface roughness and then they were sprayed twice with a water-borne coating. Then the relation between surface roughness of the furniture panels and quality of the coating films was analyzed by measuring the cured coating for the indexes of thickness, adhesion, water resistance and hardness. The results indicated that surface roughness(Ra) had a dramatic influence on the coating adhesion, while it had little affect on the water resistance and hardness. When Ra was 5.20 um,the coating film had lowest peel value, moderate harness, but highest adhesion strength and best water resistance.
