The authors examined possible methods to increase the yield rate of sliced veneer from various processing options such as: log storage, log sawing, lumber steaming, lumber slicing, and veneer cutting. A number of other important factors were analyzed that also affect the yield rate of sliced veneer. These included the method of sawing and lumber packing, steaming temperature, knife cutting angle and veneer thickness. Also, methods for protecting logs from discoloration and decay, especially in the area of mold and blue stain, were suggested.
