The composition characteristics of petroleum ether extract from 72 heartwood samples of Santalaceae obtained from 5 species of Santalum and 1 species of Osyris were analyzed by Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometer(GC-MS). Results showed that sesquiterpenes were the main petroleum ether extracts from the Sandalaceae heartwood. The compositions of volatiles from Santalum species were different from those from Osyris lanceolata. An identification model was developed to evaluate the major sesquiterpene content. For S. album, S. austrocaledonicum and S. yasi, the accuracy of identification by the model was above 94%.
