Using a greenhouse solar-dehumidification drying chamber at various modes, including open-mode, closed-mode and combined-mode, the drying process, the drying rate, the energy consumption and the quality of poplar veneer were evaluated. The results showed that under the conditions, at the air-dry kiln or closed-mode, the indoor temperature was about 23~27 ℃ higher than the outdoor temperature. When the veneer with an initial moisture content of 99.21% was pre-dried to 30%, the closed-mode drying took 3 h, and the drying rate was 21.39%/h, the energy consumption was 5.56 kW·h/m,3,. When the moisture content of veneer was reduced from 30% to about 12%, the closed-mode and open-mode drying process took 1 h and 3 h respectively, with corresponding drying rate of 16.56%/h and 5.7%/h. The closed-mode used the dehumidifier to recover heat while discharging water, which shortens the drying time. Compared with the combined mode, it can also reduce drying energy consumption.
