A compound composed of urea-formaldehyde resin(MUF) and red acid G dyeing solutions were developed and used to treat Chinese Fir(Cunninghamia lanceolate) wood samples, aiming to improve both mechanical and decorative properties of the wood. Color, bending strength and machining performances of the modified wood samples were tested and evaluated.Results showed that the wood samples had uniform and saturated color with good fastness. Density,modulus of elasticity, bending strength and compressive strength of the wood samples increased by 60.7%,48.5%, 95.7% and 83.2%, respectively, compared with the controls. All machining performances including planning, sanding, drilling, milling, mortising and turning were improved significantly. Comprehensive evaluation value of the wood samples reached excellent grade.
