The fumigation of imported logs with methyl bromide(MB) is a broadly accepted phytosanitary method. It is now facing more and more limitation due to its adverse environmental impacts. Heat treatment is an effective and eco-friendly alternative to MB treatment. In this paper, steam heating, kiln drying and dielectric heating were comparatively analyzed and their characteristics were summarized. The conclusion is that steam heating is a promising treatment technology because it can realize a quick elimination of various pests and fungi for large-diameter logs.
