Three kinds of modification solutions including a mixture of boric acid/borax(BB),melamine-urea-formaldehyde(MUF)resin and the mixture of MUF/boric acid/borax(MBB),were prepared and used to impregnate poplar wood.Moisture absorption(MA),anti-swelling efficiency(ASE), modulus of elasticity in static bending(MOE), modulus of rupture(MOR)and combustion performances of the treated and control wood samples were all tested.Results showed that the MA reduced remarkably and the ASE,MOE and MOR increased significantly when the samples were treated with MUF or MBB.Combustion performance of the poplar wood treated with the three modification solutions were all improved to different degrees.Poplar wood treated with MBB was more effective compared with the other two modification treatments.
