Studies of the effect of veneer thickness, glue spread and woodextractives on bonding strength of plywood made from three kinds of pinespecies with with UF, MUF adhesives were conducted. The effect of assemblingpine and Shorea negrosensis veneers and adding a special additive on theimprovement of bonding strength were also tested. The results indicated thatthe bonding strength of plywood from veneers of 1.5 and 2.0mm in thicknesscould meet or exceed the requirement of JAS for plywood for general useexcept that the plywood made of Laopine sapwood veneer with MUF adhesive. The bonding strength of plywood was decreased with the increase of veneerthickness. While increasing the glue spread within a certain range couldimprove the bonding strength. The bonding strength of pine plywood could beimproved by assembling mixed wood species veneer and adding special additive.
