Bamboo scrimber is inevitably subjected to impact loads in addition to the static load. Specifically
after the bamboo-scrimber-framed building is damaged by fire
the structure is loaded with the horizontal impact. The defects in the inherent structure may be amplified under the dynamic condition. The previous study on the mechanical properties of bamboo scrimber perpendicular to grain under the static conditions showed the Hopkinson pressure bar system was used to conduct dynamic mechanical performance tests on specimens at different temperatures under impact velocities of 10 m/s
13 m/s
and 16 m/s
respectively. Experiment results show that when the impact velocity remains constant
the dynamic proportional limit strength of compression
and the dynamic compressive elastic modulus of the bamboo scrimber perpendicular to grain gradually increased as the temperature increased from 20 ℃ to 180 ℃. However
these properties decreased rapidly when the temperature continues increasing up to 280 °C. Based on these findings
a formula for calculating the coefficient of influence on the dynamic proportional limit strength of compression and the dynamic compressive elastic modulus of bamboo scrimber perpendicular to grain under different temperatures was proposed
providing a theoretical basis and technical reference for the engineering application of bamboo scrimber components under high temperature and impact coupling.
