Effect of Bamboo Fiber/Polypropylene Composites Density on Insulation and Mechanical Properties
To develop sustainable structural insulated materials, bamboo fiber/polypropylene thermal insulation composites, with different densities, were prepared and feasibility of the composites to be used as core materials in structural insulated panels(SIPs) were studied. The results showed that mechanical properties of the composites increased with increasing density while insulation properties first increased and then decreased. Taking into consideration of insulation and mechanical properties of the composites, it was concluded that the composite with 0.20 g/cm3 of density was suitable for replacing polystyrene foams as core materials of SIPs.
