Stress Wave Non-Destructive Testing Technology for Decayed Wood Beams Based on Surfer Software
It is necessary to evaluate the reliability and safety of the load-bearing timber structures before to proceed the maintenance and intervention. In order to investigate the internal decay state of the timber members of ancient buildings in Beiqian village, Daixi town, Pingnan county, Fujian Province, a stress wave detector was used to assess the wooden beams. The stress wave velocity of the wooden beams was processed by using the interpolation method of Surfer software. The results showed that almost all load-bearing wooden beams have various defects of decay. The internal decay of the upper section was significantly smaller than that of the lower section. The predicted results were in the good agreement with the actual health condition of the wooden beams. Non-destructive testing method was transformed from the qualitative research to the quantitative research by using Surfer software processing the stress wave velocity and providing visualization prediction of internal decay of different cross-sections of wooden beams.
