Relationship between Weight Percentage Gain and Physical-and-Mechanical Properties of Moso Bamboo Modified with Furfuryl Alcohol Resin
In this study, the modified bamboo with a battery of weight percentage gain (WPG) was prepared by controlling the mass fraction of the furfuryl alcohol resin solution. The effect of WPG on the dimensional stability, the water absorption, the surface wettability, mechanical properties, and the thermal stability of modified bamboo were evaluated, respectively. With the increase in WPG, results indicated that the water absorption and contact angles of bamboo significantly decreased at the initial stage, then gradually slowed down the decreasing process. The anti-swelling efficiency (ASE) value increased and gradually become flat when the WPG was higher than 20%. An reduction in the modulus of rupture was observed, while the modulus of elasticity slightly increased. The residue carbon weight ratio increased and had a linear correlation with the WPGs. It was feasible to improve the comprehensive properties of modified bamboo by managing the WPGs reasonably.
